Working out ex situ and in vitro methods of pool bank preservation.

The main task of the project is creation of germplasm bank of endemic, rare, endangered (of the ornamental plants group) and economically especially valuable plant species of Kyrgyzstan.

 

The main form of conservation of genetic resources is seeds. As biotechnology develops there has been appearing a possibility to store genetic material in banks for storage of tissues and cells alive. This is especially the case for unique and endangered form of wild plants, which are possible to encounter sometimes as single specimen. Using methods of micro-reproduction in culture in vitro it is possible to obtain sufficient volume of materials for creation of bank of apical meristems. That is why during the work on performing tasks we paid special attention to both method of conservation of genetic foundation – as seed bank and meristem bank.

Creation of geographical informative system (GIS).

 

In order to perform GIS-task we created program module, which secures interface between DB, information-reference system of the project and Google Earth software. In order to use functional options of Google Earth we use KML language – a specialized extension of XML. Queries to Google Earth in KML language are automatically formed by that program module on the basis of users’ queries. In result the users have an option to find in DB with use of information-reference system those plant characteristics they are interested in, including their geographical spread. And the Google Earth visualizes those data on a monitor.

Revealing of economically valuable peculiarities of endemics, rare and economically valuable species.

Searches of species of plants as natural sources of biologically active substances, are rather actual and represent practical interest for pharmacology. The flora of Kyrghyzstan is interesting by presence of plant species which do not grow in other regions of globe, therefore the analysis of these plants represents the big interest for their perspective use.

In our researches alongside with endemic and rare species the related species growing in territory of Kyrghyzstan were studied also. As a result of screening the numerous group of perspective plants which can serve as sources of biologically active substances - flavonoids is revealed.

 

Many of them concern to endemic and to rare plants which stocks in the nature are limited, therefore one more our task was application of methods of biotechnology for reception of practically significant volumes of vegetative raw material. For some of species which accumulate biologically active substances in roots, with the help wild strains Agrobacterium rhizogenes cultures of quickly growing genetically transformed roots have been received. Their biosynthetic activity is studied.

Creation of computer database (DB) for automatization of the processes of storage and processing information.

 

Development of software on formation and editing database (DB). Information-reference system for obtaining information from DB by users’ queries is being developed . We enabled option of criteria selection by such interesting for users key characteristics as endemic status of plants, taxonomic characteristics, nature protection status, area type, spread by Kyrgyzstan’s regions, protection measures taken. A user when searching for information may use an option to compile in a query any combination of key words.
